A dump trailer that will not raise is a dump trailer that is not earning its keep. Landscapers, roofers, demolition crews, and homeowners hauling yard debris all depend on the hydraulic system to unload quickly. When the bed creeps up slowly, stalls halfway, or will not move at all, Phoenix Titans, LLC can track down the cause and get it working again at our Phoenix shop or on site with mobile service.
Pumps, Cylinders, Hoses, and Fittings
Most dump trailers use a 12-volt electric-over-hydraulic power unit that combines a motor, pump, reservoir, and valve. Problems can start anywhere in that chain. A worn pump may build too little pressure, a sticking solenoid may click without turning the motor, and low or contaminated fluid can starve the system. We check fluid level and condition, test the motor and solenoid, and verify the pump is delivering pressure.
The lift cylinder, whether a single ram or a scissor hoist, can leak past its seals and lose the ability to hold the bed up. Hoses near the pivot points rub, crack, and swell, especially after years of Phoenix heat baking the rubber. Fittings loosen from vibration on rough job sites. We repair or replace cylinders, hoses, and fittings so the system holds pressure without weeping fluid.
Batteries, Charging, and Hydraulic Jacks
A surprising number of slow or stuck beds come down to electrical supply rather than hydraulics. A weak deep-cycle battery or a charging circuit that is not replenishing it from the tow vehicle will leave the pump motor struggling under load. High summer temperatures shorten battery life, so a battery that worked last spring may not hold up in July. We test the battery, check the charge line through the 7-way plug, and inspect cables and grounds. If the problem runs deeper into the trailer harness, our trailer wiring and electrical service can help. We also repair hydraulic tongue jacks used on heavier trailers.
Our hydraulic repair services include:
- Hydraulic Pump Repair: Diagnosing and replacing motors, pumps, solenoids, and power units.
- Cylinder Service: Resealing or replacing lift cylinders that leak or will not hold the bed.
- Hose and Fitting Replacement: Installing new hoses and fittings to stop leaks and restore pressure.
- Battery and Charging Repair: Testing batteries, charge lines, and cables that power the pump.
- Fluid Service: Draining contaminated fluid and refilling with the correct type.
- Hydraulic Jack Repair: Servicing hydraulic tongue jacks that leak, drift, or will not lift.
Warning Signs in Your Hydraulic System
Call us if the bed rises slower than it used to, stops partway, drifts down on its own, or if the pump motor hums or clicks without lifting. Fluid puddles under the trailer, wet or oily hoses, milky or dark fluid in the reservoir, and a battery that dies after only a few cycles all point to developing problems. Monsoon dust can also find its way into reservoir vents and contaminate fluid over time.
